online Tutoring

I offer evening online tutoring services for GCSE and A-Level Physics via online video call using apps such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.

This can be supported by after class work and practice exercises via google classroom where required.

What happens in a 1-2-1 tutoring session?

The session starts with a catchup with the student and a quick discussion of what they have covered in school that week and/or any upcoming exams, looking to sort out any immediate issues where the student might need support.

Then if we are working through a specific revision plan, we would start work on the planned topic, this would be by combination of some key concepts on PowerPoint slides, some worked examples and some work on key skills.

For students who just want general support with their studies we will work on whatever topic the student feels they need support in. In this situation, (especially for A-Level) students, ideally the student would have completed, and self-marked a past paper before the lesson and we can then work through all the questions the student had difficulty with.

Finally, the session would end with a quick sum-up chat, setting of any work to do before the next session (if this is desired) and then planning the next session.

When are you availible and what is the cost?

I have availability in the evenings of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, between the hours of 6pm and 9pm for regular tutoring sessions.

It may be possible to organise sessions outside this time if required for things like extra lessons, last minute exam revision, etc.

I charge a standard fee of £50 for a 1-hour lessons at GCSE and A-Level. Shorter lessons do not give enough time to deal with some topics and any longer than 1-hour students tend to start to lose concentration.

I may be running some small class joint lessons for planned revision, these would be kept to around 5/6 students online at one time and would be at a reduced rate, email me if you would like to be added to a waiting list for these classes.

How do i book my first session

I like to speak to parents and students before embarking on any tutoring together, so I ask parents to email via the contact section of the website to arrange a free online video consultation.

During the online consultation, we can discuss things like:

  • current grades and confidence in physics

  • upcoming exams and timeframe

  • expectations and required grade

  • parental feedback

  • extra work outside of sessions

  • planning a regular time for tutoring sessions

Once we are in agreement, we can book the first session, arrange payment information, and we are ready to go.
